Color Vision In Cats and Dogs

Cats and dogs have the same color vision as humans with a form of red-green colorblindness called deuteranopia. Mainly it means dogs and cats see yellow and blue toys better than red toys.

This is an image from a blog entry in 2011, tweaked slightly. I used the "deficient vision" viewer in GIMP to make the inset. If you don't have GIMP, there is a really cool web page where you can upload photos and see what they look like to a colorblind person, or a cat. See your web site through colorblind eyes with the colorblind web page filter.

If you yourself are colorblind, try the Google Chrome Color Enhancer, a customizable color filter applied to webpages to improve color perception.

Do you know someone who is colorblind? These glasses filter out some light to enhance red-green color differentiation. Look for youtube videos of people trying on the glasses for the first time.
